When choosing composition and what to pair together in my paintings I often get the strong feeling that two things are meant to be together. For this painting I started with the puppy, and knew that she should be breathing in an iris’ scent. By pairing these it creates my two favorite kinds of velvet.

In many of my paintings I use a reference image for inspiration, then modify, adding flora and fauna to create the emotions I hope to convey.
