Golden Scars

A few weeks ago I learned about the Japanese art of fixing broken pottery or dishes using lacquer mixed with powdered gold. In this way they are able to celebrate the fractures as part of the item’s life, as opposed to trying to hide the breakage.

This philosophy can be applied to all of us, teaching that we can become stronger and create something beautiful from the damage we may have. Adversity often changes us, but in putting our pieces back together we emerge stronger.
