The Living and the Eternal

The passage of time means so much of history is lost to us, which is a great shame. One wonderfully preserved piece of history is sculpture and architecture. Stone withstands the passage of time in a way that many other materials can not. It outlasts the sculptor, the subject and will likely still be standing as it was carved when we are gone. I wanted to juxtapose this endurance against the fleeting lives of dragonflies, who only live for a few months once they are in their adult state.

Thank you to Oliver Marinkoski for allowing me to use his image as inspiration.

In many of my paintings I use a reference image for inspiration, then modify, adding flora and fauna to create the emotions I hope to convey.
