Birds of the World
This painting combines birds from around the world with the colours of the rainbow. I spent a few weeks selecting my favorite seven birds, one of each colour. I then researched each bird’s bill-to-tail length, in order to recreate them as close to scale as possible.
The bird on the right is a Hepatic Tanager, found in North America and has been seen as far south as Mexico.
The orange bird is a Rufous-bellied Niltava, found in the Himalayas in the west to southern China in the east.
Next is the Golden Conure, native to northern Brazil. It shares some similarities with certain Macaw breeds but are a seperate species.
The green hummingbird is found in Columbia and Venezuela.
I hope everyone can recognise the Tui, which is of course native to New Zealand!
The last two birds are the Violet-backed Starling found in Africa and the Purple Martin from North America.
I would love to hear if any well traveled person has seen two or more of these birds!

In many of my paintings I use a reference image for inspiration, then modify, adding elements to create the ideas I hope to convey.
